Some sewing, but, mostly me running after my kid

I have actually used my sewing machine this week. Yay!!! I have been seriously neglecting that thing since my husband left for a 5 week overseas trip. As with all his trips we are super active the first 10 days, and then I get so tired I don't want to leave the house. I was lucky that my parents were here for 10 days, and then they had to go back to NY, leaving me all alone out here in WA.

I was happy when I had about 15 minutes to chain piece the quilt that I have been working on since forever ago, really November, but that might as well be forever ago. It all hasn't been my fault. Really it hasn't, these aren't excuses, even though that's what it feels like. We moved from NY to WA at the end of December, and the moving company said they would deliver by the middle of January. So, I decided to put my NEW Janome 8900 on the moving truck with all my pretty pretty fabric. Long story short, our stuff didn't arrive until the middle of February.

Here is my progress so far on the quilt that I have been working on since November

It isn't much, but it's something.

I'm using the Chevron & On pattern from the March/April 13 issue of Quilty. And the fabric is Rock 'n Romance by Pat Bravo. I was hoarding this fabric for a little while, because I loved it so much that I couldn't bring myself to cutting it.

Hopefully I will blog a little more this week, but the little child is super active and loves to tease the puppy.

I guess I kind of neglected this

So, it turns out that the last time I updated this blog was about 11 months ago. Oops! Well, A LOT has changed since then. I guess I could give a little update about our lives, and what new crafty/quilty things I have been doing.

About a month after my first blog post my husband got some interesting news. He was told that he had to go to Afghanistan in June, but during the period of March, April, and May, he would have to go to the other side of the country for training. Since I grew up in the Northeast, the appropriate thing to do would be to move from Washington State to New York, during the winter. Which is so not my favorite thing to do. Basically, I have been living in my parent's home with my almost two year old, and my very loving, but highly neurotic Boston Terrier. Lets just say this has been a very interesting 6 months. Right now we're in the process of finding a new home back in WA, and collecting all the stuff I seemed to have accumulated over the last 6 months. I swear my stuff just multiplies in the middle of the night.

Now, for the crafty stuff. I would like to say that I have been extremely productive with my sewing machine and crotchet hook. Sadly, that is not the news. I will say that I did jump in the deep end and bought myself a very fancy sewing machine. I went to go and visit my mother-in-law in Iowa in October. I got there at the right time, because, the biggest quilt show was going on. I happened to snag a Janome 8900 Horizon for a steal. I did have The Husband call me so I could talk about this big purchase. Sometimes I feel crazy guilty buying something big while he is in Afghanistan. Since I bought that machine I finished up a quilt for my little girl, and I'm starting a quilt for myself. Plus, I have like 10 other projects going on in my head. I just can't stop thinking about fabric and all the pretty things I can do with it.

And I will post a couple of pictures of E Girls quilt, and the one that I just started.

Until next time.

I'm Here and Somewhat Willing to Blog

Hey all!! I'm pretty sure i'm the only one reading this, and to be honest, I kind of dig that. Maybe it's because I'm not "ready-for-real-life" blogging, or maybe i'm just trying to figure out this crazy world I like to call motherhood. Right now as I type this Baby E is somewhat happy about being in her jumper, actually I think she may fall asleep in that thing.

Maybe I should write a little bit about myself and a little bit about my family. My name is Jaime, i'm almost 29 years old and I am a wife to a very loving husband and a mother to a very active 13-month old. Maybe you can guess by the blog title, but my husband is in the Army. Currently we are living in WA State, and I must admit that I really am loving it despite my entire family being located in the Northeast.

I started this blog to show off some of my handiwork, even if it is just beginner handiwork. I'm teaching myself to quilt and I'm relearning how to crochet. I will say that I actually haven't touched my sewing machine in about 3 months. I'll try to update this blog at least once a week.

Take care!! And remember to tell a loved one that you appreciate them. I don't think we do that enough, and that's one of my New Years Resolutions.
